Begin at the lake
Start near Ngọc Sơn Temple while the pavements are still cool. Hoàn Kiếm Lake is an easy point of orientation, and the northern shore leads naturally into the Old Quarter.
Walk without rushing. The value of this route lies in small details: tiled roofs, narrow tube houses, flower sellers, tea stalls, and the sound of shops opening for the day.
Follow the old trades
Continue toward Hàng Bạc, Hàng Mã, Hàng Gai, and Lãn Ông. The products sold today have changed, but street names still preserve the memory of guilds that supplied the old capital.

A useful half-day rhythm
Allow two to three hours, wear comfortable shoes, and cross streets steadily rather than suddenly. Early morning is calmer; late afternoon brings more street life. On weekend evenings, the pedestrian zone around the lake creates a different, more social atmosphere.
